History of KAIR

KAIR went live as an AM station on the air July 22nd, 1939. As the station began more than 80 years ago, we are proud to continue serving the Atchison and the surrounding community. Many fascinating people have been a part of KAIR, including Kansas City broadcasting great Walt Bodine.

KAIR went live as an FM station on January 25th, 1995, and is located at the corner of 5th St. and Kansas Ave., just north of downtown Atchison, KS. KAIR AM/FM was acquired by KNZA on July 1st, 1996, providing music, news, sports and weather to Northeast Kansas and parts of Northwest Missouri.

KAIR is packed with programming consisting of modern top 40 country music, local newscasts, weather, on-air talent, the latest agricultural information, local high school game broadcasts, and remote broadcasts. KAIR encompasses Atchison County, and parts of Brown, Doniphan, Jackson, Jefferson, Leavenworth, and Nemaha Counties in Kansas, as well as parts of Northwest Missouri.
